A: 您是经理吗?

B: 不是,我是董事长,您呢?

A: 我也是董事长。

A: 他是谁?

A: Nin hăo!

B: Nin hăo!

A: Nin shì jīnglĭ ma?

B: Bú shì, wǒ shì dǒngshìzhǎng, nín ne?

A: Wŏ yĕ shì dǒngshìzhǎng.

B: Tā shì shéi?

A: Tā shì dongshizhang , tāmen dōu shì dǒngshìzhǎng!


A: Good morning Sir!

A: Are you a director?

B: No, I am a President, and you?

A: I am a President too.

B: Who is he?

A: He is a President, they all are Presidents!

Personal pronouns
In Chinese personal pronouns does not change its form. In a sentence it always have the same form. When you want to use the plural form you only have add "men" to the pronoun, i.e.: wo - I, me, women - we, us

singular            plural

1. 我 wŏ            1. 我们 wŏmen

2. 你/您 nĭ/nín  2. 你们 nĭmen

3. 他 tā             3. 他们 tāmen

3. 她 tā             3. 她们 tāmen

3. 它 tā             3. 它们 tāmen

Basic sentence in Chinese
In modern Chinese very important is the words order, i.e.:

Subject + predicate + object

我 + 是 + 经理。

wŏ   shì   jīnglĭ.

All the time words, adwerbs, like: no, also, all, always stays before the predicate:


Tā yĕ shì jīnglĭ.

He is also a director.


Tāmen dōu shì dǒngshìzhǎng.

They all are directors.


Tā bù shì jīnglĭ.

She is not a director.

不 - bu, stands always before the verb:


Wŏ bù shì jīnglĭ.

I am not a director.

ma, question particle which stays always at the end of the sentence. It can be translated like "are" at the beggining of english sentence:


Nĭ shì jīnglĭ ma?

Are you a director?

Interrogative pronoun “谁 shei”
Must be placed on the place of the word we want to ask a question, mostly where the subject or object are placed:

他是谁? 他是经理。

谁是经理? 他是经理。

2. Fill the blanks with proper question: " 吗 ma" or "谁 shei":

a. 他是谁?           b. 你是经理吗?          c. 他们都是董事长吗?

a. Tā shì ____?   b. Nǐ shì jīnglǐ ___?   c. Tāmėn dōu shì dongshizhang ___?

New words and expressions
是 shì to be

经理 jīngli director, menager

董事长 dǒngshìzhǎng president of the company

不 bù no

不是 búshì no, used as an aswer for the questions with verb "to be"

也 yĕ also

都 dōu all, used after the plural ie.: wŏmen dōu - all of us

谁 shéi zaimek pytający kto, kim

吗 mȧ question particle, used at the end of a declarative sentence to transform it into a question.

们 mėn creates the plural form of personal pronouns
